William Carlos Williams: 'Iris'
William Carlos Williams
Iris
Un'esplosione d'iris tale
che quando scendemmo
per colazione
cercammo tra le stanze
cos'era
quel
profumo dolcissimo e
dapprima non riuscimmo
a trovarne
la fonte, finché
un azzurro come di mare
ci colpì
di sorpresa, sferrato
da quei petali
squillanti
***
Iris
A burst of iris so that
come down for
breakfast
we searched through the
rooms for
that
sweetest odor and at
first could not
find its
source then a blue as
of the sea
struck
startling us from among
those trumpeting
petals
