Durante il giorno cose non guardate:
Ma, se dormo, nei sogni in te soltanto
Buio fulgore scrutano il tuo buio.
E se con la tua ombra ombre fai di luce
Quale gioiosa vista sarebbe la tua ombra
Nel chiaro giorno a luce ancor più chiara,
Se tanto splende a occhi senza vista?
Ossia: quanto beati sarebbero i miei occhi
Per contemplare te nel vivo giorno,
Se nella morta notte la tua pur imperfetta
Ombra nel sonno appare a occhi senza vista?
I giorni sono notti finché io guardo te,
Pieno giorno le notti se in sogno appari a me.
